Animal Testing in the Cosmetic Industry
Animal Testing in the Cosmetic Industry
For this project, I created a subversive design centered around a cause I’m deeply passionate about: challenging the beauty industry's ongoing animal testing practices.
I aimed to flip the narrative by drawing attention to the harsh realities behind many popular beauty products. The target audience was females aged 12 to 35 who frequently purchase makeup, skincare, and other beauty goods. The goal was to raise awareness and empower consumers to make more informed, ethical choices.

why create this piece
I was tasked with creating a subversive piece that held personal significance, so I chose to focus on animal testing in the cosmetics industry—a subject I feel strongly about. I wanted the design to challenge norms and spark conversation around the ethical issues often overlooked in the pursuit of beauty.
inspiration
I set out to elevate the brand’s visibility and boost awareness by strategically analyzing their target demographic, product offerings, audience behavior, and existing brand identity. Every design decision was grounded in a clear understanding of who they are and how they show up in the market.

Final design
I developed the final design by intentionally exploring a wide range of inspiration sources, blending key elements to amplify the core message. I handpicked a compelling image and transformed it by replacing the original human and gorilla figures with more striking alternatives. This deliberate alteration created a bold visual comparison, designed to provoke thought and stir emotion. By equating animal testing with human testing, I aimed to confront viewers with the ethical implications of animal experimentation in the beauty industry—and challenge them to rethink what society deems acceptable.
